Increase quality, lower costs and protect the environment with HAF filter technology

These advantages are offered by the 3M™ High Air Flow (HAF) air conditioner filter systems of J. Schwarz. This was proven in a three-year pilot project in collaboration with a local public transportation company.
  
Now that the class G2 air filters have been field-tested in Germany, J. Schwarz is expecting strong demand, especially from transportation and tour coach companies. The filter, developed by the 3M Corporation, has already been in use for a long time in the United States and Asia, where the product is the market standard and is used in busses and other means of public transportation.
‘Despite its advantages, this filter system is practically unknown in Europe’, explains Daniel Schwarz, J. Schwarz’s managing director, whose company is the distribution partner for 3M Germany.
 

At first glance, the frameless filter seems to be very coarsely meshed compared to traditional air filters. ‘That is actually the case’, Schwarz explains. ‘This polypropylene filter doesn’t achieve its effect by sifting the air sucked through it, as is the case with a fleece filter’. On the contrary, the HAF filters, which are fabricated at J. Schwarz according to customer specifications, are provided with an additive that charges the plastic material electrostatically, so that pollen and dust particles are attracted by the walls of the honeycombed air flow channels. As a result, besides the filter’s high performance level, there is very little air resistance during the filter’s total lifetime, which in turn means energy savings.
  
According to Daniel Schwarz: ‘When paper filters have become largely clogged and thus are much less efficient, our filters are still working without any significant loss in performance’.
The filter, which is available for immediate delivery from the warehouse, clearly stands out from paper filters especially due to its cost effectiveness.
‘This advantage was obvious. In collaborating in the pilot project with the local transportation company, our main concern was to field test the clearly longer lifetime and lower maintenance costs’, Schwarz explains. The result was extremely positive: ‘Depending on the type of filter, the service life was extended two- to threefold compared with traditional filters’.
  

Considering the proven potential savings, which were proven for a period of three years, the company is very confident that it will gain a much larger market share in the future during retrofitting of busses; last but not least, thanks are due to its well-known partner in the pilot project, as Daniel Schwarz specifically emphasized. ‘Our project partner is known in the industry as a very innovative local public transportation company, having set the standard throughout Germany for the introduction of low-floor busses’.
  
J. Schwarz GmbH also intends to set the standard in the future for sales of custom-made HAF air filter system, for which managing director Schwarz sees many other application possibilities besides vehicular air conditioners: ‘I’m thinking of ambient air treatment, cooling fans, dehumidifiers, split-system air conditions or switchgear and server cabinets. We could substantially reduce costs by using this filter medium for practically all applications that require a class G2 air filter’.
