LASER TECHNOLOGY

Shape-cutting for extreme precision and protection of materials

With laser technology, engineering plastics are shaped quickly without tools and mechanical stress while protecting the materials. Films and plastic panel blanks – e.g., polycarbonate (Makrofol®, Lexan®) or polyester (Mylar®, Hostaphan®) – are shaped with CO2 lasers with maximum precision. Special emphasis should be placed on Makrolon® as a technical and universal material.
Many acrylic glass processing jobs are quite feasible; in most cases, a work step can be saved during the laser process, as an instantaneous high gloss results from a brief melting of the cut edges. Deburring and polishing of the shaped parts can thus be eliminated following cutting.
